Solo exhibition Museum De Lakenhal Leiden

  • Between 2016 and 2019, Karin Borghouts followed the rebuilding process at Museum De Lakenhal in Leiden (NL) with her camera. She strolled through the museum on countless occasions, seeking out powerful images of moments of demolition, rediscovered historical details and the building chaos, as well as more unassuming details. These still lifes of the empty museum spaces undergoing renovation are displayed here as witness to a past phase: the museum in transition.
Museum De Lakenhal reopened on 20 June 2019. In one of the two new exhibition halls, the exhibition MUSEUM IN TRANSITION is running, with large-format photos by Karin Borghouts. This is one of the eleven artistic projects that Museum De Lakenhal commissioned to mark the renovation. ‘Destroyed House’ by the artist Marjan Teeuwen can be seen in the other new exhibition hall. The new building was designed by HappelVerhoevenCornelisse Architecten.
In the renovated museum wings, you can enjoy the permanent collection with masterpieces by Lucas van Leyden, Rembrandt and Theo van Doesburg.
