Dear Reader

On June 4th, Karin Borghouts' first Paris Impasse exhibition will open at the Photography Museum in Charleroi, Belgium. In Antwerp the paintings of Rubens are hung in the renovated 19th century rooms of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts. It was an impressive event. Delen Private Bank celebrates 85 years with a passion for art. And there is a new intimate photography book coming in the autumn. Happy May.

Paris Impasse

Paris Impasse gives a view of Paris as it has never been shown before. A city of dead-end alleys, photographed without any human presence. Karin Borghouts started photographing cul de sacs in 2011 but most of them were photographed during an artist-in-residence stay in La cité internationale des arts Paris, provided by the Flemish Government.

The photography book Paris Impasse, designed by Jean-Michel Meyers, was nominated at Les rencontres de la photographie Arles, and is published by Snoeck Publishers.

The series will be exhibited in Belgium for the first time.

A Painter's House

The house of the artist Marten Melsen (1887-1947) remained in its original state after his death. His two unmarried daughters and one of his sons continued to live in it and kept the house and the studio like it was. Karin Borghouts had the first opportunity to visit and photograph this special house in 2017. In 2022, she took new photos and is even more convinced that this authentic artist's home should not be lost.
The house is still preserved thanks to the Marten Melsen Foundation. A request for recognition and subsidy has currently been submitted to the Flemish government and Monumentenwacht Vlaanderen has documented the house. Preservation, maintenance and opening up of the house are very much needed.

Through her art painter's education, and inspired by a beautiful light, Karin Borghouts knows how to unveil this photogenic environment with a special and empathic sensitivity.

It is the second book in her new collector's concept. The first book is THE HOUSE published in spring 2021. The concept consists of a series about houses with a soul and a link to painting. Not to be missed...

The book will be presented on September 11, 2022 - Open Monuments Day - in the house of Marten Melsen in Stabroek, Belgium.
